SLCC President Attending OVW National Conference
‘On 16 October I attended the One Voice Wales (OVW) National Conference, which was held in the Montgomery Pavilion at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.
‘Unfortunately there was torrential rain on the day but this did not dampen anyone’s spirits and their was a lively buzz in the room throughout the event. With representatives from across Wales there was lots to talk about and it was interesting to hear the different speakers and note the current and future issues Welsh colleagues are facing.
‘The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between OVW and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) was a notable moment. OVW Chair, Cllr Mike Theodoulou welcomed everyone, both opening and closing the conference. We also heard from Lyn Cadwallader, OVW’s CEO, who spoke passionately about his role and future aspirations for OVW and its members.
‘There were many exhibitors who had an impressive display in a separate hall, where a lovely lunch was served. All attendees had the opportunity to visit the different stands including our own SLCC stand, it was great to showcase SLCC.
‘I had the opportunity to speak to several of the attendees and exhibitors including Jonathan Owen, CEO of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), Cllr Mike Theodoulou and Lyn Cadwallader. I also met up with fellow SLCC directors, Edward Humphreys FSLCC and Sharron Jones FSLCC.
‘The conference ended around 3.30pm and after a very interesting visit I headed back to the rail station for a lengthy journey back to Norfolk.’
