Steve Trice, Chair to the Board of Directors for Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), and Cllr Keith Stevens, Chair of National Association of Local Councils (NALC), have formally signed the SLCC & NALC Partnership Statement and Memorandum of Understanding at SLCC’s 50th anniversary National Conference today (3 November).
Steve Trice said, ‘The memorandum of understanding is extremely important as it highlights our collaborative commitment to develop a strong and effective partnership to support clerks, councillors and councils in delivering for their communities.’
The two organisations also reaffirmed their support for councils to be members of their county associations and NALC, and for clerks to be members of SLCC and be active in their county branches. The protocol highlights these aspirations.
Cllr Keith Stevens said, ‘NALC and SLCC have a long track record of working together to promote, support and improve local (parish and town) councils. I’m delighted to renew our important partnership through the memorandum of understanding.’
The leadership of the two organisations will meet regularly to promote this partnership and deliver on some key joint projects including a workforce strategy, covering retention and recruitment, pay and other terms of employment.
They will also continue to champion good governance and promote high standards of behaviour through the civility and respect project which will continue into 2023.
