Julie James AC/AM, Minister for Housing and Local Government has responded to the letter sent by SLCC Chief Executive Rob Smith, which highlights the significant financial impact that the current pandemic is having on local councils and requests that money provided by central government is used to support town, parish and community councils as well as principal authorities.
In her letter Ms James acknowledges the ‘key role’ that community and town councils in Wales have played throughout this crisis and says that the Welsh Government is working with One Voice Wales to understand what financial impact the loss of ‘other income’ has had on local councils. She also thanked members for ‘their continued hard work during this unprecedented situation.’
