The government has released a consultation response which sets out the reforms to permitted development rights that will be taken forward to enable citizens and businesses across the country to enjoy the benefits of 5G as soon as possible.
Changes to permitted development rights will include allowing small radio equipment cabinets to be installed, permitted increases to the width and height (up to 25m) of existing masts, and permitting smaller masts (up to 6m high) on buildings – all without the need for prior approval.
Safeguards for sensitive locations such as National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Conservation Areas and Sites of Special Scientific Interest will be put in place.
