Training Workshop - Building Resilience, Emotional Intelligence and Personal Confidence to help you Thrive as a Clerk or Council Officer

CVSL Conference 2024 - Voluntary Sector Collaborations: Cohesive or Coercive Influences on Leadership Strategy

Join us for this year’s annual conference held by the OU’s Centre for Voluntary Sector Leadership in the Business School. This year’s theme is centred around the concept of collaboration, building on last year’s conference that focused on the resilience of the voluntary sector within the context of the economic crisis.

The event has been curated by the Centre’s Director, Dr Fidèle Mutwarasibo.

Date: Wednesday, 22 May, 2024 – 9:15am to 16:30pm
Location: In-person at The Open University, Milton Keynes and online

This day-long, in-person workshop, delivered by Breakthrough Communications, is designed to equip parish and town council staff with the essential skills to thrive in their roles by harnessing the power of resilience and emotional intelligence.

Participants will delve into practical strategies and scenarios tailored to the unique challenges faced within council environments.

Through interactive sessions and discussions, attendees will gain insights into the origins of their own behaviour and that of other people, the importance of resilience in council roles, and effective methods to build and sustain emotional intellience.

We’ll develop personal skillsets including assertiveness, active listening, giving and receiving feedback and skills to be more confident.

With thanks to our sponsors and supporters of this event

Tîm y Ddraig* presents - Councillor Induction, From A Clerk’s Perspective (Wales)

Calling all clerks – do your councillors struggle to understand their role and the breadth & depth of what you do to keep the council on track? Our training event will help you to inform your councillors about what they can do – and just as importantly what they cannot do!

What’s the best way to do this? Sign up to our online course and all will be revealed…

A good clerk will ensure that new councillors (and those requiring a refresh) are fully informed about their roles, their responsibilities and challenges that lie ahead.

Over two afternoons (31 July & 1 August) between 2pm and 4pm, our comprehensive course will ensure your clerk/councillor relationship gets off to the best start as you help your new councillors to settle in.

Topics covered include: Expectations of a Councillor’s Behaviour; Debate not Hate; Explaining Council Assets and Services, Local Government Structure and the Role of the Clerk and other Officers.

This course is suitable to new clerks and those of long standing and relevant to a council of any size.

This is a pilot training event, endorsed by One Voice Wales and the Society of Local Council Clerks.
