10 January 2023The government has no plans to extend referendum principles to town and parish councils in England in 2023/24. A consultation has been issued to gather views ahead of the local government finance settlement being discussed in parliament. Most questions are for principal councils, but the one specific to local councils is at paragraph 3.5./Question 3 where it asks if respondents are happy with the proposal of referendum principles not being implemented for our sector.
SLCC welcomes this proposal and supports the response to be formally submitted by the National Association of Local Councils.
