To support the creation of more beautiful and sustainable buildings and places, the government published the National Model Design Code last year, to support local councils and communities to set standards around design in their local area.
A government sponsored report looking at the Model Design Code pilot programme reveals that “A steep learning curve is required to produce design codes” and “there seems to be significant potential for neighbourhood planning groups to take on a role in the preparation of neighbourhood or site level design guides/codes”.
