Five Cheshire MP’s have voiced their concerns over the community governance review being carried out by Cheshire East Council which could see several local councils abolished or merged.
One of the current draft proposals would see Handforth Town Council, (formerly better known as Handforth Parish Council) merge with two other parishes to create a new authority.
Cheshire East Council have reportedly said that the review is to ‘ensure that community governance arrangements continue to reflect local identities and facilitate effective and convenient local government’.
However, the BBC report that the five MP’s concerned fear that the proposed changes could ‘damage local community spirit’.
The consultation closes on 28 November.
