This week, Monday 13 to Friday 17 May, is Mental Health Awareness Week. Statistics produced by the Health and Safety Executive show that 875,000 workers experienced work related stress, anxiety or depression during 2022/2023, making mental health the leading cause of ill health in workplaces throughout the UK. There are no figures specifically for this sector, but there is evidence that these have a significant impact, and are a factor for members being off sick.
The week, which is run by the Mental Health Foundation, takes place at the same time every year. You can read more about the background to good mental health by visiting the foundation’s website, as well as that of the charity Mind.
