Glastonbury is a market town in mid-Somerset with an estimated population of 9,000. There are 16 councillors and 10 staff (8 FTE). The precept is currently £440,000 with additional income generated locally of approximately £150,000. It is not intended that the successful applicant will be the Responsible Financial Officer. The Town Council aims to provide local services currently with Mendip District Council and other authorities who are themselves going through a transitionary period prior to becoming a unitary.
The Town Council wish to find a proactive, enthusiastic, and highly motivated person to support the Town Council as the Transitional Town Clerk. The successful applicant will be either CiLCA qualified, or willing to obtain the qualification within twelve months from appointment. The position is based in the Town Hall, Magdalene Street, Glastonbury. BA6 9EL. The current Clerk has informed that he intends to retire in May 2023, providing an opportunity for his replacement to shadow and involve with the running of the council, prior to taking on the responsibility of the position.
- The hours of work each week are 37 hours (There is a requirement to attend evening meetings)
