Barnard Castle Town Council is a hard-working town council in the rural south-west of County Durham on the River Tees and is seeking to appoint a forward-looking and creative Town Clerk.
Hours: Full Time, Permanent – 37 hours per week (plus regular evening meetings)
Salary: In the range £32,029 – £38,813 per annum NJC Scale 29 – 36; dependent upon experience & qualification, plus local Government Pension Scheme
The town has a population of 5,500 and the town council’s 2019/20 revenue budget is £232,963, with a precept of £190,936.
The town council operates allotments, play areas, mini-golf, market, parks and open spaces and delivers a number of annual events and projects including a three-day 1940’s Weekend.
The council takes an active role in partnership working and considering the development of other services and the town clerk will play a crucial role in exploring such opportunities.
The person appointed will manage the council services, its staff (four permanent and four seasonal)and take on a pivotal role in ensuring our council continues to move forward. The post of town clerk is challenging, and the duties will require regular evening work and occasional weekend working which is reflected in the salary being offered. You may be an experienced or qualified clerk, or you may have a successful track record elsewhere and are prepared to qualify quickly as a town clerk.
