County: Wiltshire

Salary: Salary Range (LC4 - SCP 50 to LC4 – SCP 54 )

Closing date: 28/04/2023 12:00

Director of Council Services/Town Clerk

Applications must be returned by 28/04/2023 12:00

The Town Council has an annual Precept requirement of £1,364,011 against a projected total budget requirement of £1,457,050 in 2023/2024. The Council holds reserves for projects and has allocated CIL funds. The Director of Council Services will lead and work alongside the Management Team, Deputy RFO and administrative and maintenance staff.

The Director of Council Services is the Responsible Financial Officer and is responsible for overseeing all financial dealings of the Council, as well as the prudent management of its financial assets

We are proud of our community events and are keen to grow the number of events we hold.  We were able to host our annual Fireworks event which 6,000 people attended at an entry price of £1. We have a new management team at the Beversbrook Sports and Community Facility and have extended the range of services we offer to residents. This is a key asset for sports and leisure provision for the town.

We have purchased three properties for rent and this will provide the town with a sustainable income for the coming years.  This is an exciting time for Calne Town Council, with important projects already in the pipeline for the Recreation Ground, former Fire and Ambulance station, Priestley Grove playing field and a well-established platform to provide a wider range of services to its local residents, often working in partnership with other organisations.

With all this in mind, Calne Town Council is looking for the right candidate to take the organisation to its next level of development in an evolving town, building on the strong base implemented in the last 12 months. That person will be required to oversee the significant and exciting projects and to steer the Council through the impact of devolution of services.

Applicants should ideally have Local Government experience, including formal Committee work, implementation of council policies, the provision of advice and guidance on statutory and legislative matters, and in providing financial management support, ensuring adherence to the Town Council’s Financial Regulations.

The successful post holder will ideally be CiLCA qualified.

Our Director of Council Services, Steve Nash, is leaving his role at the end of May 2023 and the Council wishes to recruit his replacement in good time to ensure a seamless transition.

Closing date for applications: 12pm Friday 28 April 2023
