If a crisis hit your organisation tomorrow, what would you do?

Cyber attacks, terrorist incidents, the RAAC building safety closures, cladding fire risk and the recent protests by extreme groups are risks all local councils have been and should be prepared for. This requirement is growing, particularly with the new legal expectation that all staff are better prepared, ready to respond, and know what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.

This webinar looks at the process for the planning for, handling of and recovery from a crisis situation. It will be a practical session, combining communications expertise and behavioural insights, allowing participants to develop a robust communication plan and give reassurance and assurance that they are prepared for the worst.

The key learnings and outcomes for the session are:

  • Appraise your current crisis communication planning against best practice
  • Identify the key stages in crisis communications, from planning to recovery
  • Learn the Government and other crisis operating models, and how to appropriately apply to your organisation and risk level
  • Share learning in safe space

 

  • Provide the evidence expected under new legislation as to how communication will support keeping people safe
  • Prepare and receive expert guidance on two risk issues, decided by attendees
  • Leave the session with the confidence and clarity to develop a robust, compliant communications plan, and then review and receive feedback

About the Trainers

Michael Dodd

Michael is a former Sky broadcast journalist and an international professional speaker whose master classes boost performance levels and confidence. With a background as a political journalist, business reporter and foreign correspondent, he is a professional speaker (and former chair of the Professional Speaking Association) and he is well-versed in knowing how to sharpen message-making, achieving highly impactful communications, targeted at your audience.

He is the author of “Great Answers To Tough Questions At Work” which was shortlisted for the “Management Book Of The Year Award” organised by the Chartered Institute Of Management.

Michael’s presented BBC programs such as Global and Five Live Report. Michael speaks with audiences of officials in United Nations agencies to prepare to face tough media questioning on international issues.

Michael is a Fellow of the Professional Speaking Association.

Michelle Hallmark

Formerly a reporter with local, regional and national experience, Michelle has worked with more than 60 local authorities and non-profit organisations on media, copywriting, communications strategy and marketing projects. She is vice chair of a housing’s charity and a board trustee of a national charity.

Michelle is a behavioural scientist, with a Psychology diploma, Masters in behaviour change (distinction), Chartered Institute of Public Relations Advanced Diploma, National Council for the Training of Journalist qualification and first-class BA Hons in Journalism.

Michelle has extensive governance understanding, as a recent vice chair of Key Unlocking Futures, a housing association charitable subsidiary which supports the homeless, victims of domestic abuse and young people with mental health struggles. She has also held the role of trustee of national The Vegetarian Society and a regional housing provider.

With a background in media law, experience working at national, regional and local newspapers and 20 years’ working with housing providers, Michelle specialises in crisis communications and positive reputational campaign work.
