English Devolution Webinars

20 February 2025

In line with SLCC’s commitment to ensuring that town and parish councils have a voice in shaping the future of local government, and as part of your membership benefits, we’re offering two free webinars to explore the impact of the English Devolution White Paper, where you will hear from colleagues who have first-hand experience with reorganisation.

The ‘What Does It Mean for Us?’ Reorganisation to Unitary Local Government’ webinar, which will take place on Monday 7 April from 1pm to 2.30pm, will provide you with insights from councils that have already transitioned to unitary status. Through a panel of representatives from Cornwall, Wiltshire, Dorset, Northamptonshire, Somerset, and North Yorkshire sharing their experiences, you’ll learn about the impact of reorganisation on local councils; how councils have adapted, taken on new assets, and strengthened community leadership; and given practical lessons from councils that have been through the process.

The second webinar, ‘What Does It Mean for Us? Mayoral Combined Authorities’, taking place on Wednesday 16 April from 12pm to 1.30pm, and consisting of panellists from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, East Midlands, West of England, West Yorkshire, York & North Yorkshire, and North East, will look at the role and powers of mayors in new combined authorities; how local councils are engaging with mayors and principal authorities; and give you practical insights from councils working within mayoral structures.

A recording of the above sessions will be available to SLCC members in the members area of the website after the webinars, as a member benefit.
