The government is consulting on the proposal to give all employees the right to request flexible working from day one of employment rather than having to wait until 6 months have elapsed currently. However, this is not the same as having the right to work flexibly, it just confers the right to request it from your employer.
In addition to the above it will consider the other questions such as:
- whether the eight business reasons for refusing a request all remain valid;
- the administrative process underpinning the right to request flexible working;
- requiring the employer to suggest alternatives; and
- requesting a temporary arrangement
