| Viva the Levolution: Recovering and Growing our Community Asset In 2013, in response to the threat of closure, a community campaign known locally as Levolution, was mobilised to save Levenshulme Old Library. Since then, through many years of hard work, a keystone local heritage asset was saved from becoming a liability. Jez reflects on the long journey to first reopen the building as a community arts and culture centre, how it survived the pandemic, and what lies ahead. He’ll describe the practical challenges and the pressures such a project places upon the volunteers who lead it. Look at the building’s website for more information.

| Solar-powered Community Buildings – from Feasibility to Implementation Community Action Northumberland (CAN) is leading a project to install solar panels and associated battery storage onto a range of community buildings – village halls, churches and others. The project aims to help buildings reduce energy costs, move towards net zero and gain resilience when connection to the national grid is lost. Feasibility work is complete, planning permissions are being granted and funds are in place for the first installations. This session will look at how the project has got to this stage, how it will be managed and where the money is coming from. Solar-powered Community Buildings – from Feasibility to Implementation |
