In July 2021, the then Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) invited local authorities in England to express interest in capital funding available for Changing Places toilets, to help people with severe disabilities to take part in everyday activities with the same dignity as everyone else. Features include a changing table big enough for adults, hoists, as well as enough room for the person and their carer to move around, and non-slip flooring.
Local authorities were asked to work with town and parish councils towards this.
Following the Round 1 assessment process, the government has now announced that 191 unitary and district councils across England have been allocated £23.5 million of funding to increase the number and spread of Changing Places toilet facilities across England. A further round of the Changing Places Fund is anticipated later in 2022.
