The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has pushed back the scheduled release of 2021 Census results from May 2022 to early summer.
For the first time, ONS is drawing on the insight and expertise of local councils across England and Wales to ensure they produce the best possible statistics for each area, with over 250 authorities contributing. Local authorities are currently assisting in the complex quality assurance process where estimates are being cross-validated (using other data sources such as Council Tax records) which has extended the process.
There is concern that delays in publishing data could impact on local government finance reforms .
