As part of the Levelling Up in Practice programme, leading think tank, Onward, has produced research showing the importance of local councils in levelling up. Levelling Up Locally concentrates on five parts of the country to identify five common challenges:

• Tackling antisocial behaviour, particularly among young people
• Bringing life back to high streets and town centres
• Supporting local sport, culture, heritage and green space
• Boosting local growth in the private sector
• Providing community-based support to the most disadvantaged

The report encourages local leaders to use a data diagnostic approach to identify the most pressing of these challenges in their areas and goes on to make recommendations via a playbook of interventions to help tackle each of these issues.
