The BBC reports that, despite dire warnings to the contrary, (see News Item of 23rd April) following a second appeal for volunteers, enough candidates have been found to ensure that Dorset’s parish councils are able to function after the local elections.
Earlier this month, it emerged that 130 of 163 town and parish councils in the Dorset council area did not have enough candidates to hold elections, to be held at the same time as elections for the 82 seats on the new unitary authority.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has said that two appeals for volunteers have now ensured that all the councils will be able to operate.
