28 February 2019SLCC’s Practitioners’ Conference held earlier this month at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth has again been hailed a great success. Of the 167 members who attended the event, 98% accorded it an “excellent” or “good” rating. The usual mix of keynote plenary sessions coupled with alternative choices of breakout sessions on topics of direct practical relevance to town, parish and community councils was again popular with attendees. As one member put it, “I cannot think why I haven’t attended Practitioners’ before over the last 35 years!” and another, “Everything ran so smoothly and to time. Food was great, speakers great, venue great – thank you!”
By far, the most popular session was that delivered by Huntingdon Town Clerk, Philip Peacock PSLCC, on an “Action Plan for the Death of a Senior Person of State” which 80% of delegates said was “excellent”, with one commenting, “A superb session, gave useful practical information on a key area of upcoming importance”.

From the feedback received from those attending, the topic most frequently requested for future events was a session on ‘town regeneration and high street survival’. We are therefore pleased to advise that a senior official from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will be presenting on the Government’s new ‘Changing the Face of your High Street’ programme at the Leadership in Action Conference on 5th & 6th June.
