12 February 2019A Government-commissioned review of the planning system has said that changes could be made to ensure the average time for resolving an appeal inquiry could be reduced from 47 weeks to about 26 weeks.
The review by economist Bridget Rosewell, suggests introducing new technology and employing more planning inspectors, among 22 recommendations.
Communities Secretary, James Brokenshire, said that speeding up decisions could help the Government realise its target of delivering 300,000 homes a year by the mid-2020s, but Clive Betts MP, Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee, said the Government had to ensure “the inspector can get a grasp of the local issues” when ruling on a contested planning decision.
