New SLCC President for 2024/25
Congratulations to Gina Lopes PSLCC, Clerk to Stoke Ferry Parish Council in Norfolk who was elected as the 2024/25 President at the SLCC Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 7. Gina will represent over 5,000 clerks from town, parish, and community councils across England and Wales as the ceremonial head of the SLCC.
With over 20 years of clerking experience in Norfolk and the Eastern region, Gina has led significant projects, including the development of recreation grounds and the relocation of a Charter Market. Her career, shaped by a passion for community service, began as an executive assistant at the BBC in London. After relocating to Norfolk to start a family, she transitioned to local governance, taking on roles such as parish support officer for the Suffolk Association of Local Councils.
Gina has made history within the SLCC as the first person to simultaneously serve as both president and board director since 2017. She has been an active member of the SLCC, holding various leadership positions at branch and national levels.
Commenting on her new role, Gina said, “I am delighted to be elected as president. If you had told me 20 years ago that I would become president, I wouldn’t have believed it. This is the icing on the cake of my career, and I look forward to a busy and rewarding year, visiting SLCC branches and promoting my two chosen charities.”
Gina’s two chosen charities are White Ribbon, which aims to prevent violence against women and girls, and the SLCC Educational Trust, which promotes education of local council officers to enable them to better serve their council and local communities.
Gina’s first official visits will include SLCC branches in Wales, with more visits scheduled. She will also represent the SLCC at key sector events of partners such as National Association of Local Councils (NALC), Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO), International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), and SOLAR.
Gina extends her thanks to her sponsors- Civic.ly, Creative Play, The CDS Group, and Michaels Civic Robes- for their kind support as she embarks on this new chapter as SLCC president.
