We are thrilled to announce that the agenda is now available for the upcoming National Conference, taking place in-person at Leonardo Hotel and Conference Venue Hinckley Island, Leicestershire on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 October 2023, as well as virtually.
Guest speakers include Andrew Towlerton, SLCC’s National Planning Advisor, whose session will look at how councils and clerks can best approach and deal with the planning system; Malcolm Smith, Senior Education and Engagement Officer at UK Parliament, who will be guiding you through developing an understanding of how to help your council and community be heard nationally; and Katherine and Garry Brown of Blachere Illumination, event sponsor, whose session will look at festive lighting and how they can work with budgets of any size.
In addition, Figen Murray, mother of Martyn Hett who was tragically one of 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017, will be making a special appearance to update delegates on the latest developments of Martyn’s Law.
Tilly Lockley will close this year’s conference with an engaging talk on AI, diversity and inclusion and disability. At 15-months old, Tilly Lockey was diagnosed with Menigococal Septicemia which meant she had to lose her hands, forearms, and toes. Developing state-of-the-art bionic arms with Open Bionics which she wears every day, Tilly has received a Humanitarian award in New York, won a talent competition, ‘Got What It Takes’ and has performed to an audience of 20,000 at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, all with a thriving online presence across all social platforms.
