Wimborne Minster Town Council is a thriving and dynamic town council, and you could be part of an important and pivotal role within the small team at the Town Council, supporting elected councillors and the Town Clerk in all areas of responsibility but also taking ownership of assigned projects or activities.

The Council has fourteen councillors and committees covering Recreation and Leisure, Environment and Planning, Resources, and Policy, Personnel and Strategy. The Council has representatives on many groups and organisations – such as those linked to Dorset Council and others outside the local government sector. The staff structure is made up of eight members of staff.

The Town Council is seeking to appoint a dynamic, forward thinking, and proactive Deputy Town Clerk who is capable of working under their own initiative as well as working closely with and supporting the Town Clerk, staff and elected members to deliver positive leadership and direction. The postholder will be expected to support and assist the Town Clerk in the administration and running of Town Council services and activities (including civic functions) and to contribute positively to the strategic delivery and Council priorities, which are being currently being reviewed.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have relevant experience and a track record of achievement, innovation and commitment to public service. They must also be motivated and community focused and possess sound communication and organisational skills. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be well presented, efficient, intellectually capable, self-motivated and an effective communicator. An ability and commitment to promote good relations with staff, councillors and members of the public is essential. A Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification is desirable, and the willingness to work to achieve this is essential, as is knowledge of local government organisation and procedures.

Attendance at evening meetings and weekend events will be required, for which time off in lieu will be granted.
