SLCC is hosting an International Day of People with Disabilities virtual event on Friday 2 December from 9:45am – 12:00pm – the theme for this year is ‘Not All Disabilities are Visible’.
All profit made from this event will be donated to Scope – the disability equality charity in England and Wales which provides practical information and emotional support when it’s most needed, and campaigns relentlessly to create a fairer society.
With an insightful session from Adam Tweed & Adi Latif who will discuss the common barriers that people encounter at work, in study, and in day-to-day life; the kinds of assistive technologies and tools that people use to overcome these barriers, and the steps that everyone can take to avoid creating barriers in the first place.
Hear from Ian Hawkins who was born with a debilitating heart condition and spent a lot of his early life in hospitals witnessing first-hand how innovation and technology impacted the world. The experience left him with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder which he believes has given as much as it has taken, not least an understanding that everything we want to achieve in life lies on the other side of that which frightens us the most.
