This week the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) launched the UK Community Renewal Fund to support projects across the UK in encouraging economic growth and regenerating town centres and high streets.
The government is backing 477 locally-led, innovative projects in towns, villages and coastal communities across the UK. Many of the successful bids are projects that deliver on reducing carbon emissions and working towards the UK becoming net zero.
This fund is part of three new investment programmes:
- The UK Community Renewal Fund
- The Levelling Up Fund
- The Community Ownership Fund
Secretary of State for Levelling Up Michael Gove said, ‘We are levelling up in every corner of the United Kingdom, backing locally-led projects that will make a real difference to communities and help to deliver our net zero commitments. There is incredible talent spread right across our great country and this investment will unlock the opportunities to match.’
Bids are submitted through ‘lead councils’.
The funding through the UK Community Renewal Fund will also help local areas prepare for the launch of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in 2022.
