Deputy Clerk

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Campbell Park Parish Council in Milton Keynes. Serving over 15,000 residents, across 5 residential estates and 2 leisure/employment areas close to the centre of Milton Keynes, the Parish Council is committed to enhancing the environment and delivering local services to maximise resident well-being and quality of life. The Parish Council has taken responsibility for different functions and facilities in recent years and is currently adapting to the challenges and opportunities created by the devolvement of services from the local Unitary Authority.
The Parish Council is looking to appoint an innovative, forward-thinking, and proactive Deputy Clerk, to work alongside the Clerk to Council and the Senior Management Team to deliver a range of council services. The Deputy Clerk will be responsible for the Council’s Administration, Human Resources and Communication functions; whilst deputising for the Clerk to Council in their absence. The Deputy Clerk will have a shared responsibility for ensuring that the instructions of council are carried out and will work actively with elected Members to develop services.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success within the town/parish council sector, including both team management and Human Resources practices and issues, a good understanding of the role and functions of a progressive parish council, and above all a proactive attitude to getting things done. A CiLCA qualification, or the commitment to obtain it within 12 months of appointment is required. The post holder will show flexibility in their workload and be committed to working outside core hours to meet the demands of the service – whilst most working hours will be office-based during the working week, flexibility is required to attend council meetings and events, including evenings and occasional weekends.
This is a particularly exciting time for the Parish Council as its services and facilities expand, with a focus over the next two years of delivering the first purpose-built Community Hub of its type in Milton Keynes. We are therefore looking for an excellent team-builder to enthuse and motivate an expanding team. The role will initially be based in Fishermead but will relocate when the Parish Council develops its new Community Hub in Springfield. Working hours are 37 per week.
