Open Spaces Society (OSS) are urging local councils in England and Wales to join their Grant a Green campaign and register their open spaces as town or village greens to protect from development.
It is simple to register and there is no charge for registration with the commons registration authority which is your county or unitary council. The registration authority will need to confirm that you are legally entitled to apply and, if necessary, have the written permission of any leaseholder or charge holder. You also need to include a map, description of the land and the area around which local users reside and will have a right on that land for recreation.
With the Government bringing forward so much change to the planning system the need to secure the future of public land for recreation has never been greater.
