The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) are holding their Annual Conference between 9 and 13 May 2021 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. The theme of this sold-out event is ‘Embrace the rapids: manoeuvring in a changing world’ and is being held in-person, working with the city and state to deliver a safe and successful conference whilst adhering to current Covid-19 guidelines.
The conference promises to deliver a mix of educational and information sessions, as well as offer opportunities for networking with colleagues to share experiences and insights on what has been the most challenging time for municipal authorities.
The IIMC Awards, held during the Annual Conference, will see IIMC Region XI and SLCC members Naomi Bibi and Katherine Owen receive the 2020 President’s Award of Merit. As the Conference was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic the Awards from last year will be presented in May 2021. The award is given at the discretion of the IIMC President to members who have furthered IIMC’s mission. Both Naomi and Katherine are advocates of IIMC and Region XI affiliation and long-time supporters of IIMC goals and objectives, bringing forward ideas into the UK to advance the profession.
SLCC President, Linda Larter MBE FSLCC, sent a message of support and congratulations to the IIMC, ‘The IIMC Annual Conference has sold out and that is indicative of the quality and diversity of the programme on offer. My congratulations to Katherine Owen and Naomi Bibi, the recipients of the 2020 President’s Award of Merit which recognises their continuing commitment and hard work on behalf of the profession. It is a major challenge to put together an event of this scale in a safe and secure way. I am sorry that I am not able to attend and meet everyone but I wish the IIMC every success and hope all delegates enjoy their time in Grand Rapids’.
