The voting is open for the Director of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) Region XI (outside North America) which includes Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Israel, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, and Wales).
The two candidates, who both hail from the Netherlands are Hans Rijs, municipal clerk in the city of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk and Leendert Groenenboom – better known as Eelco, who is clerk to the village of Albrandswaard.
Hans Rijs has been municipal clerk since 2011 and has been an active member of VvG, the Dutch Clerks’ Association for Clerks and is a board member with responsibility for conferences, ICT, sponsoring and communication.
One of his aims, as a member of the IIMC Foundation Development Committee which offers financial assistance with education for members is to open up this funding for members from Region XI – which includes England and Wales as this is currently not offered. Hans attended the SLCC National Conference last year and is keen to strengthen ties between the two organisations. He is organising a field trip for the Community Governance students in the Netherlands which will hopefully take place later this year and is keen on sharing ideas and experiences of local government in both countries. Eelco, as he prefers to be known, has served on several IIMC committees and chaired the International Relations Committee. He has also been a member of recent IIMC taskforces on Diversity and Inclusion and Education. Eelco is a member of the Dutch Institute of Municipal Clerks (DIMC) and is responsible for the training and certification of Dutch clerks. He is very active on an international level helping to organise two European Symposia held in Brussels and the UK and has attended the SLCC National Conference twice.
He is committed to professional development as the key to providing a better service to the community. Click here to read the election statement from Eelco Groenenboom.
The voting ballot was emailed to all IIMC members (SLCC members) on 1st September 2020.
