The Government has announced that it does not propose to set ‘referendum principles’ for town and parish councils in England for 2020/21. However the Government ‘remains concerned about the pressure placed on taxpayers from thousands of town and parish councils across England’ and expects them to exercise ‘even greater restraint’ for 2020/21. The Government will keep the matter under ‘active review’ for future years.
