Training
The Society of Local Council Clerks is the professional body for Clerks in Town, Parish and Community Councils in England and Wales. One of the services provided by the Society is a range of low cost training courses.
We offer the SLCC's essential course for all Clerks: Working With Your Council. This flexible Distance Learning Package allows the Clerk to balance their studies around work and home commitments, and can also be studied over a 2 day course. The programme is relevant and practical, enabling the Clerk to apply principles in the work-place, and help them perform their duties more effectively and efficiently. This course is also open to Councillors, and other Council Officers.
We support the Clerk in achieving and maintaining the qualification Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA), enabling your Council to apply for Quality Council Status.
Throughout the year we offer 10 Regional Conferences, this is one of the best ways to keep up to date technically with a mix of experienced contributors, both within the Society and externally, plus 15 exhibitors to consult. This conference is open to both Clerks and Councilors.
We launched in 2011 Branch Conferences, which are open to both Clerks and Councillors. The topics for these events include all areas of Clerking with sessions run from Local, National and County Associations.
Our Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Course Programme offers a wide range of topics of interest to Clerks, their Deputies and Councillors. We have introduced some new topics for 2012 from feedback received from our members.
We offer many other events throughout the year including Practitioners' Conference, Larger Council's Conference, Summer Symposium and of course the National Conference, which is now the largest event in our sector.
Don't forget, there is also a bursary scheme in England and Wales that could cover 50% of the training cost of up to £100. Please see the bursary pages for more information.
If there are topics that we haven't covered in the programme, and you would like to see them in your area, please contact Helen Quick on Helen.quick@slcc.co.uk
