Our Sector

There are currently approximately 8,500 Parish, Town and Community Councils through England and Wales. This excludes parish meetings who do not raise a precept.

This sector has been described with phrases such as ‘solid’, ‘safe and sound’ and ‘not prone to panic’. Words that cannot be used to describe many commercial companies or even markets at this present time of economic uncertainty.

And the future of our sector is bright. Following the implementation of the latest Local Government Bill, the number of Councils will increase in the coming years as more and more of the large urban areas in our country become parished to give communities more control over their local environments. With the Unitary Tide also accelerating, an increasing level of responsibilities will be passed to the first tier of local government, creating greater activity and spending power.

The Society’s database is the most accurate and comprehensive in the sector and includes full details for both members and non-members to the Society.

The CLERK - magazine advertising
The Clerk is the bi-monthly journal of the SLCC, and is our major piece of communication with our members.

As a members-only magazine, publications are valued and retained. The content (including your advert) is read, absorbed and referred to for future purchases.

Conferences
The Society currently organises 10 Regional Conferences, the Practitioners Conference, the Larger Councils’ Conference and the National Conference.

Regional Conferences
We hold 10 Regional Conferences across the UK each year which attract a varying number of delegates, Cost of exhibiting is £200 per conference.

Larger Councils’ Conference
This conference is being held on the 22nd & 23rd April this year in Nottingham and attracts Clerks from the Larger Councils.

National Conference
Our National Conference is our showpiece event, now in its 36th year, and last year attracted over 230 delegates. The 2010 event is being held in Durham, from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th October and normally attracts around 30 exhibitors. Exhibiting costs range from £500 and £1500, all depending upon the size, location and footfall.

Exclusive Mailing
Why not partner the SLCC in an exclusive mailing to members or non-members of the Society.

You can decide what you would like to include in the mailing and the format it will take, (you can be as creative as you like) and the Society will provide the data to the mailing house and an SLCC item to be included (format to be agreed). You will pay for the postage and as you will have exclusive rights to the mailing, the Society will not sell any further inserts to be included.

The Society’s website has been re-designed and re-developed making it the Number One resource for Clerks within the Local Council sector.

The Suppliers Directory is the most comprehensive, single source of contact information for a Clerk, whether they are a Society member or not. The Directory on our website can include a web listing with full contact details including a hyperlinked banner ad or a logo and 50 words. The Directory is also linked to our home page and a ‘featured’ supplier is highlighted on each person’s visit to the website. The more categories you are listed under the more likely it is you will be featured on the home page.
