From time to time all Clerks will be asked to deliver a large out of the ordinary project, perhaps a major event, a new building or taking on a new service – anything which is in addition to your normal duties. This course will help you to deal with the challenges you may face, and be successful whilst avoiding some common pitfalls. You will be taken through every stage of Project Management from the idea and feasibility study, to the business plan and onwards. The course will be beneficial to all officers in local councils whether they are involved with projects or considering them.

The emerging idea – evidence of need, opportunity and benefits. Are funds achievable?

The Rationale – the project’s aim and objectives, and feasibility study. The need for full consultation. Deciding whether or not to proceed.

Establishing a steering group - Identifying other key personnel in the project . The role of the Clerk and the Council.

The project management plan – detailed specifications, financial cost, cash flow, work plan, budgets and procedures

Risk assessments – the greater the uncertainty the greater the risk. Outline actions to be taken to minimize and manage risk and by whom.

Project delivery – reporting mechanisms, the audit trail. Project evaluation, celebration and thanks!
