International Experience Programme
Participate in the SLCC 2012 International Experience Programme
Win a trip to the IIMC Conference in Portland, Oregon in May 2012!
The SLCC, thanks to generous external sponsorship, has the opportunity for 2 members of the SLCC to gain international experience through attending the International Institute of Municipal Clerks conference in Portland, Oregon which will take place from 20th to 24th May 2012.
The programme
Two bursaries worth approx £850 each will be provided to winners of the entrance competition which will be open from now until 12th March 2012.
Each bursary will pay for a return transatlantic flight to Portland and registration to the conference. All that participants will need to pay for is accommodation in the conference hotel at the IIMC negotiated rate of around £100 per night and incidental travel and subsistence costs. Further details of the conference can be found at http://www.iimc.com/Conference/Current_conf.shtml
How to participate
Participation will be by entry to the competition which will take place between 1st February and 12th March 2012. Entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the National Executive Council and winners will be notified by the end of March 2012. All entrants will certify that they will, if they win participate in the programme and pay their own accommodation and incidental travel costs.
Entrants should submit the application form, (link below) with a written article which, if of sufficient quality will be published in future editions of “The Clerk.” The article should be approximately 800 words long and should tell readers about an interesting project which you have been involved in with your council, or an unusual skill or technique which you employ in your work. Alternatively you can discuss “the benefits of international experience as a part of continuous professional development”. The winners will be those who, in the judge’s opinion, have provided the most informative, amusing and/or well written article.
