The Society of Local Council Clerks is committed to promote the professional standing and knowledge of its members through training and qualification of its members and prospective members.

Our comprehensive training and conference programme continues to offer Clerks a range of training courses, conferences, workshops and qualifications designed to improve the abilities and skills of the Clerk at all levels and from any size of Council. The programme also provides Clerks with an excellent opportunity to discuss and share common issues.

  • Practitioners’ Conference
Different to all other Conferences, in that practitioners I have chosen their ‘top 12 topics’. At this conference we provide both internal and external experts for both 60 and 90 minute workshops.

  • Larger Councils’ Conference
Now in its eighth year, firmly established as the ‘must go’ event for Clerks their Deputies, and Responsible Financial Officers from all Larger Councils. Have your say on the agenda by completing the survey.
  • National Conference
The Society's 'showcase' event, now in it's 38th year!  A unique opportunity to keep up-to-date, network with fellow Clerks and Officers, attend the AGM, influence your professional body, debate and ask those vital questions... and above all relax so you can return to the workplace refreshed and invigorated.

  • Regional Conferences
One of the best ways to keep up-to-date technically with a mix of experienced contributors, both within the Society and externally, plus around 15 exhibitors to consult.

  • Branch Conferences
A more local way to keep up-to-date, topics include all areas of Clerking with speakers from Local, National and County Associations.

  • Summer Symposium
Led by the Institute of Local Council Management together with our partners at the University of Gloucestershire, the Summer Symposium is set in a relaxing environment where delegates can lead interactive discussions and debate on topical issues.

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Courses
CPD provides in-depth training opportunities for practitioners working for, or involved with Local Councils. Local Councils deal with a multitude of activities and issues. In depth knowledge with such matters gives us confidence and self fulfillment. We must all have been in situations where we have been challenged, or where we just don’t know or even worse where we stumble on just hoping for light at the end of the tunnel. CPD is now there to help and to inspire. Courses also provide practitioners with professional accreditation giving those essential points to help Institute members re-accredit each year. Please note that you do not need to be a member of the Institute to benefit from the courses.
