The Society of Local Council Clerks is committed to promote the professional standing and knowledge of its members through training and qualification of its members and prospective members.

Our comprehensive training and conference programme continues to offer clerks a range of training courses, conferences, workshops and qualifications designed to improve the abilities and skills of the clerk at all levels and from any size of Council. The programme also provides clerks with an excellent opportunity to discuss and share common issues.

Practitioners’ Conference
Different to all other conferences, in that practitioners have chosen their ‘top 12 topics’ such as Section 106, Engaging Young People, Risk Management, Policy Documents, Updates on minor new legislation and Surviving the Downturn and public sector cuts. At this conference we provide both internal and external experts for 60 minute workshops.

Larger Councils’ Conference
Now in its sixth year, firmly established as the ‘must go’ event for clerks and their deputies from all Larger Councils – join over 100 colleagues and enjoy ‘high level’ discussions with your colleagues.

Summer Seminars
Led by our University partners, the sector’s leading academic institution, in the relaxing environment of Cheltenham. An opportunity to debate thought-provoking and topical issues of the day in a stimulating atmosphere – whilst the setting is friendly and informal, the debate is typically ‘cut and thrust’.

Regional Conferences
As the local government sector becomes more complicated and the clerk’s duties increase the need for timely information and support is essential. The one day regional conferences meet this need and have set a new standard for tackling the major issues of the day.
