Local Policy

The Society remains very proud of its partnership with the University and recommends study with the University of Gloucestershire.
The University of Gloucestershire offers quality advanced training for study at home, through distance learning. It also advises the Society on training issues including CPD (Continuous Professional Development), mentoring and the 'Working with your Council' induction course.
The University’s courses lead to advanced professional qualifications.
-
The most popular option is the two-year course leading to a Level Four Certificate of Higher Education – the first level of the Foundation Degree in Community Engagement and Governance (CEG) (starting September 2011). This course has been designed with the full co-operation of the SLCC and ILCM (Institute of Local Council Management) to meet the specific needs of local council clerks. For further information on this course and to help you decide whether to fill in an application form, please click on The CEG Course for a leaflet addressed to local councils. Download testimonials. This course is widely recognised as the advanced professional qualification for those working in local council management.

-
Once you have taken the Certificate of Higher Education, you can progress onto Level Five course (the second level of the Foundation Degree) or even Level Six, the BA Hons degree in CEG. Each level takes two years of part-time distance learning study.
-
The first residential school for Level Four is planned for Thursday 6th October and Friday 7th October 2011 in Cheltenham.
